Max damage reduced by 2
I had several goals in mind when approaching the Vestal rework:
By far the biggest changes made are to the 3 frontline skills – Illumination, Mace Bash (now “Chastise”), and Hand of Light. The entire frontline build was basically redesigned to create a nice mix of skills that could be used in different situations.
The other big change is that Judgement now has higher accuracy and damage along with armor piercing, but no longer self-heals. I felt that casting Judgement was too obvious of a choice in many situations, crowding out other heal skills. This new design forces you to make a binary choice between healing and damage, in exchange for packing more of a punch in the damage department.
I also reverted the healing buff the Vestal received in CoM, because I feel it makes her too much of a must-take character. If I increased the healing of the other characters to match, it makes the game too easy and undermines the “wearing down” of your party which I think is an important part of DD’s gameplay. Overall I think a Vestal that can pack a wallop on offense while also providing medium-strength but reliable heals makes for a more fun experience.
